About Us

Originally established in Perth in 1973 as The Singing Tree bookstore, Westbooks has since grown to become a state -wide provider of quality reading resources and library services. We are Western Australia’s only full service library supplier and operate exclusively in Western Australia. We support local business and choose to source products and services in WA wherever possible.

We pride ourselves on our knowledge and personal service. Many of the books that you find in your local library or school library will have been supplied by us. We have a long association with the State Library of WA, providing and distributing shelf ready reading materials to all Western Australian public libraries. SLWA recently appointed Westbooks to preserve and catalogue its Heritage collection of books, DVDs and other resources. This project was conducted over 12 months and required the highest standard of processing and specialist cataloguing. Strict procedures were in place to preserve these valuable resources.

Our Clients

Westbooks services a broad range of Western Australian clients. These include WA state and public libraries, private, Catholic and public schools, child care centres, local councils and government departments.

Our Team

We are a diverse team at Westbooks comprising many nationalities. Besides English, we speak the following languages: Italian, Russian, French, Polish, Hungarian, Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay, Hindi and German. We employ experienced staff who take pride in their work. We are pet friendly with resident pooches Snowy, Spencer, Mei Li and Socks.

In October 2014 we expanded and moved to our current premises in Burswood, a larger warehouse with a custom designed fit-out to streamline our services.

Our Values

Committed to promoting literacy in Western Australia, we have an established history of community involvement and working with organisations that share our values. We have had a long association with the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s WA Branch and have hosted the annual 'A Night With Our Stars' event that showcases the work of local authors. We sponsor and are the collection point for the 'Make Your Own Story Book' competition.

We were successful in securing a grant under the 'James Patterson Gets Kids Reading' program to distribute literacy packages to children in care. Our book club program has expanded to running bookclubs at the State Library. We also host regular author events, with a special focus on Western Australian talent.
